Why it keeps coming back

Salt doesn’t sit on the carpet. It moves.

It arrives wet

Salt brine comes in on boots as slush and soaks straight through the mat into the carpet and the padding underneath.
It dries into the fibers

As the car dries, the water leaves and the salt stays — crystallized through the pile, not on top of it. That’s the white bloom.
Then it repeats

Every damp day re-wets what’s left and it blooms again. A vacuum lifts the loose grit; the dissolved salt has to be flushed out with water and pulled back out.
